so in the past two days my Latin lecturer has both used the phrase “cast in their teeth” (and correctly, too), and apologised for the inconvenience caused by the ANZAC day public holiday.

Going through the Master and Commander tag, and I’m having the feeling that CuddlyTogas and I are possibly the only two people in the world who could watch the film and come away shipping, not Jack/Stephen, but Jack/Acheron captain, in a long-distance-foe-yay-through-telescopes…
I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS
SHIPHEAD!CANON. Do you think he haunts the midshipmen’s berth, since he never managed to get the promotion to lieutenant, so now he spends ALL ETERNITY as a midshipman?
He probably likes it there. I mean, Blakeny was the only person who was ever nice to him, so I imagine it holds some fond memories. And let’s be honest - he wasn’t a great sailor, and he wasn’t a great midshipman, and I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have done well with a promotion. But maybe he’s okay with that. He did his bit for the ship, he gave it his all, and now he can make sure everything goes okay without having to worry about chains of command and discipline and respect and stupid sailors making stupid rumours and being STUPID.
