PSA: Rule #2 for writing Sherlock Holmes stories is ‘No women’.
I shit you not, I was looking up Anthony Horowitz’s House of Silk Holmes pastiche, and at the back were his ‘Ten Rules’ for writing Sherlock Holmes; and rule number two was, explicitly, “No women.” Because bringing Irene Adler back is just silly, and clearly she was the only woman who was the exception to ‘Holmes can’t love’.
It’s not as if women have any other function in a story. Right?
